Moses Pruitt (1786-1839) & Phoebe Williams (1781-1858)

Moses Pruitt and Phoebe Williams are Todd’s 4X Great Grandparents.

Todd’s mother Marilyn is in the DNA Circles at Ancestry.com for Moses and Phoebe and both of Phoebe’s parents.

Moses Pruitt was born April 18, 1786 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. His parents were Moses Pruitt and Rachel Spillman. I’ve found a lot of conflicting information about the family, and I’m not sure how many children they had. It’s possible that the father’s name was Morris and his nickname was Moses. It’s also possible that further along the Pruitt line, Todd’s 9X Great Grandfather was Abraham Lincoln’s 5X Great Grandfather. Fun if it’s true, and I’ll let you know if I ever chase this lead.

Phoebe Williams was born in 1781 in Virginia. Her parents were Simon Williams and Polly Ann Bennett. Phoebe was the second oldest of their 14 children. The family moved to Rowan County, North Carolina and then to Kentucky before ending up in Indiana, being some of the earliest settlers in Posey County.
