John Busby (1774-1853) & Agnes Wisner (1778-1855)

John Busby & Agnes Wisner are Todd’s 4X Great Grandparents. There’s a page from their family Bible available on Ancestry.com which lists their birth and death dates, and those of their children.

John Busby was born on February 15, 1774 in Baltimore County, Maryland. His parents are John Busby (1750-1791) & Edith Price (1755-1830). Their Find A Grave memorials are here and here.

Agnes Wisner was born May 10, 1778 in Baltimore County, Maryland. Her parents are Mathias Wisner and Sarah Mannon. Their Find A Grave memorials are here and here.

John & Agnes married in about 1795 based on the birth of their first child.

John Busby is one of the earliest settlers of Harrison County, Ohio, arriving in 1805. John came with his mother, as his father had died young.

It is said that John served in War of 1812 but I haven’t found records.

I can’t find the family on the 1810 US Census. On the 1820 US Census, John is head of a household of 11 in Archer, Harrison County, Ohio. 2 males under age 10; 1 male aged 10-15; 1 male 45 and over; 4 females under age 10; 2 females aged 16-25; 1 female aged 26-44. John’s mother Edith is enumerated with her own household.

On the 1830 US Census, John’s household is still in Archer, Harrison County, Ohio. It totals 11: 1 male aged 10-14; 1 male aged 15-19; 1 male aged 50-59; 1 female aged 5-9; 2 females aged 10-14; 3 females aged 15-19; 1 female aged 20-29; 1 female aged 50-59.

On the 1840 US Census, John’s household is still in Archer, Harrison County, Ohio. It totals 6: 2 males aged 30-39; 1 male aged 60-69; 1 female aged 15-19; 1 female aged 40-49; 1 female aged 60-69.

On the 1850 US Census, the family is enumerated for the last time. John was 70 and Agnes was 73. Also in the home were their son Abraham Busby, age 36; his wife Elizabeth Busby, age 30; grandson John B. Busby, age 1; and John’s sister Huldah Busby, age 60.

Sarah Busby – Sarah was born on January 9, 1796. She married Edward Healea in about 1815. They had at least 9 children. She died March 12, 1889.

Rachel Busby – Rachel was born on July 24, 1797. She married David Smith on May 21, 1818 in Harrison County, Ohio. They had 9 children. She died in 1880 in Richland County, Ohio. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

Belinda Busby – Belinda was born on October 14, 1799. She married Nathaniel Baker on November 11, 1819 in Harrison County, Ohio. They had 6 children. Her husband’s probate records are available on Ancestry.com but I can’t find any further record of Belinda.

Elizabeth “Betsey” Ann Busby – Betsey Ann was born on January 1, 1804. She married David Bricker on October 14, 1845 in Harrison County, Ohio.  They had 1 child. She died February 28, 1883 in Gallia County, Ohio.  Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

John Wisner Busby – John was born on March 28, 1806. He married Anna Merryman in April of 1826. They had 14 children. He died December 26, 1870 in Harrison County, Ohio. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

Mary Ann “Polly” Busby – Polly was born January 10, 1808. She married John McCombs on December 23, 1834 in Harrison County, Ohio. John was a carpenter. They had 8 children. They moved to Iowa in 1863 with their 7 living children. She died on November 17, 1890. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

Dorcas Busby – Dorcas was born March 30, 1810. She married Aaron Conaway in 1833. They had 10 children. She died on January 20, 1901. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

Anna Busby – Anna was born February 27, 1812. I have no further record of her.

Abraham H. Busby – Abraham was born on January 22, 1814. He married Elizabeth Marshall on May 18, 1848. They had 6 children. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

Deborah Busby – Deborah was born June 5, 1816. She married Albert Singhaus in 1838. They had 8 children, and he died in about 1855. The last record I have of her is the 1900 US Census.

Jane T. Busby – Jane was born April 21, 1818. She married William Strausbaugh on March 24, 1840 in Harrison County, Ohio. They had 10 children. She died November 3, 1905 in Morgan Township, Gallia County, Ohio. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

Isaac Busby – Isaac Busby was born April 7, 1820. He died October 3, 1847.

Harriet Busby – Harriet was born on January 6, 1824. She married Levi Atkinson in 1848. She died March 26, 1849.

Zachariah Baker (1798-1863) & Edee Busby (1802-1882)

Zachariah Baker was born December 13, 1798 in Stafford County, Virginia. His parents were Zachariah Baker & Susanna Washburn. Read about them here.

Edee Busby was born December 18, 1802 in Baltimore, Maryland. Her parents were John Busby III and Agnes Wisner. Read about them here.

Zachariah and Edee were married February 3, 1825 by Rev. Elijah Stone in Harrison County, Ohio.

On the 1830 US Census, Zachariah Baker was head of a household of 6 in Vermillion, Richland, Ohio. The household was: 2 males under age 5 (sons John and Samuel); 1 male aged 30-39 (Zachariah); 2 females under age 5 (daughters Susannah and Mary Jane); 1 female aged 20-29 (Edee).

On the 1840 US Census, Zachariah Baker was head of a household of 15 in Vermillion, Richland County, Ohio. The household was: 1 male under age 5 (David); 3 males aged 5-9 (Nathaniel, Abraham, Zachariah); 2 males aged 10-14 (Samuel and John); 1 male aged 40-49 (Zachariah); 4 females under age 5 (Agnes, Rachel, Sarah); 1 female aged 5-9 (Mary Jane); 1 female aged 10-14 (Susanna); 1 female aged 20-29 (unknown); 1 female aged 30-39 (Edee).

On the 1850 US Census, the family was still farming in Vermillion, Richland County, Ohio. Zachariah was 50, Edee was 46. They had 11 children at home: Mary Jane, age 21; Zachariah, age 20; Nathaniel, age 18; Abraham, age 16; Agnes, age 14; Rachel, age 12; David, age 10; Anna, age 8; Belinda, age 6; Henry, age 4; Edee, age 1.

On the 1860 US Census, the family is in Vermillion, now in Ashland County, Ohio. Zachariah was 60 and Edee was 56. Children at home: Rachel, age 22; David, age 21; Anna, age 20; Henry, age 13; Edith, age 11.

On the 1870 US Census, widowed Edee was 69 and lived with daughter Edee, age 20. Oldest son John lived next door with his family.

On the 1880 US Census, Edee was 78 and lived with widowed daughter Sarah, age 39, and her son John, age 10. It is noted on the census that Edee had a broken arm.

John W. Baker – John was born October 21, 1825. He married Elizabeth Bault on February 18, 1847 in Ashland County, Ohio. They had 5 children. John was a wagon maker (1860, 1880) and a farmer (1870). He died September 9, 1880 in Ashland County, Ohio. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

Samuel B. Baker – Samuel was born October 30, 1826 He married Ruth Bault on February 22, 1848 in Ashland County, Ohio. They had 4 children and farmed in Ashland County, Ohio and then in Noble, Indiana. He died March 12, 1886. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

Susanna Baker – Susanna was born January 23, 1827. She married John Bault on June 14, 1849 in Ashland County, Ohio. They had 3 children. Susanna died in 1855. She is buried in Union County, Ohio. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

Mary Jane Baker – Mary Jane was born June 1, 1829. She married McClure Davis on March 10, 1853 in Ashland County, Ohio. They farmed in Ashland County, Ohio and had 5 children. She died November 22, 1895. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

Zachariah Curtis Baker – Zachariah was born October 27, 1830 in Ashland County, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Harlan on August 12, 1852 in Ashland County, Ohio. They had 9 children. By 1880 the family moved to Atchison County, Missouri. He died on April 22, 1905 in Atchison County, Missouri. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

Nathaniel L. Baker – Nathaniel was born April 7, 1832. He married Margaret Neely on March 11, 1858 in Ashland County. They farmed in Ashland County, Ohio and had 5 children. He died June 24, 1893 in Ashland County, Ohio. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

Abraham H. Baker – Abraham was born December 29, 1834. He died on February 15, 1881, and probate records for his estate indicate he left no widow or children. The records list the names of his living brothers and sisters. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

Agnes Baker – Agnes was born July 14, 1836. She married James Harlan on June 17, 1856 in Ashland County. They had 6 children. She died January 28, 1872 in Noble County, Indiana. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

Rachel Baker – Rachel was born August 28, 1837. She married Fredrick Wagoner, who had served in the Civil War, on November 19, 1865 in Ashland County, Ohio. They had 3 children. She died December 22, 1910 and is buried in Richland County, Ohio. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

David Baker – David was born on October 7, 1838. He married Catherine Shelly on October 10, 1861 in Ashland County, Ohio. They had 8 children. He died November 8, 1886 in Ashland County, Ohio. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

Sarah Anna Baker – Sarah Anna was born January 27, 1840. She married John Gray on July 3, 1866 in Ashland County. I haven’t found them in 1870. On the 1880 US Census Sarah Anna was a widow, living with her mother and 10-year-old son John Gray. On the 1900 US Census, Sarah Anna lived with adopted daughter Ivy Pearl McCormick in Ashland County, Ohio. I have no record of her after that.

Belinda Baker – Belinda was born in 1841. She married Amasa Jones on December 16, 1858 in Ashland County, Ohio. They had 11 children. She died July 4, 1901 in Ashland County, Ohio. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

Emanuel Baker – Emanuel was born April 17, 1843, He died in 1850.

Henry J. Baker – Henry was born October 16, 1845. He married Almira Jane Rector in 1875, probably in Iowa, and they had 6 children. He died July 9, 1917 and he is buried in Lancaster County, Nebraska. His Find A Grave memorial is here.
