Francis Cullom Browning and Nancy Johnson are Todd’s 4x Great Grandparents.
Francis Cullom Browning was born on June 11, 1798 in Clark County, Kentucky. He is the son of Elias Browning (1765-1845) and Susannah Cullom (1768-1852). Todd’s father Lanny’s AncestryDNA matches people in the DNA circles for Elias Browning and Susannah Cullom. It’s always nice to have that confirmation that we are following the right people.
Nancy Johnson was born May 29, 1806 in Clark County, Kentucky. I don’t know who her parents are.
Francis and Nancy married in about 1828 in Kentucky.
On the 1830 US Census, the family lived in Clark County, Kentucky. It was a household of 4: 1 male under age 5 (Elias was 1); 1 male aged 20-29 (Francis was 32); 1 female under age 5 (Eliza was 1); 1 female aged 20-29 (Nancy was 24).
On the 1840 US Census, the family was still in Clark County, Kentucky. Now they were a household of 8: 1 male under age 5 (Napoleon was 5); 1 male aged 5-9 (Elias was 11); 1 male aged 30-39 (Francis was 42); 2 females under age 5 (Susan was 6, Mary was 2); 1 female aged 5-9 (Almeda was 7); 1 female aged 10-14 (Eliza was 11); 1 female aged 30-39 (Nancy was 34).
On the 1850 US Census, the family was in Holt County, Missouri. Francis was said to be 58, but I think he was 52. Nancy was 45. There were 8 children in the household (only Elias had left): Eliza, age 21; Susan, age 17; Almeda, age 16; Napoleon, age 15; Mary, age 13; Alvira, age 9; James, age 6; Emarine, age 2.

On the 1860 US Census, widowed Nancy was 57, and she lived in Holt County, Missouri with two of her children: Alvira was 19 and James was 16.
On the 187o US Census, Nancy was 65 and lived in Benton, Holt County, Missouri. Son James was 25, his wife Millie was 24, and they had two children: Montgomery was 4 and William was 3 months.
On the 1880 US Census, Nancy was 75 and still sharing a home with James and his family in Benton, Holt County, Missouri.

Almeda Browning – Almeda was born June 21, 1833 in Kentucky. She married Andrew Jackson Tolby on October 21, 1855 in Holt County, Missouri. They had 6 children. She died November 20, 1888 in Carroll County, Arkansas. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.
Susan Elizabeth Browning – Susan was born in about 1834 in Kentucky. Susan married John L. Scott on September 16, 1851 in Holt County, Missouri. They had 7 children. She died between 1880 and 1900. John died after 1910.
Napoleon Browning – Napoleon was born on December 22, 1835. He married Margaret Rebecca Wilson on April 15, 1858 in Holt County, Missouri. They had 10 children. He died on June 13, 1921 in Holt County, Missouri. His Find A Grave memorial is here.
Mary Browning – Mary was born about 1837 in Kentucky. I don’t have record of her after the 1850 US Census.
Alvira Browning – Alvira was born about 1841. I don’t have record of her after the 1850 US Census.
James Benton Browning – James was born June 4, 1844 in Clark County, Kentucky. He married Millie B. Clark in about 1865. They had 4 children. She died in 1882. James married Susan Lentz on December 24, 1885 in Mound City, Holt County, Missouri. She died in 1893 after giving birth to their only child. James married Etta Curtis on April 24, 1895 in Mound City, Holt County, Missouri. They had 2 children. He died February 3, 1928 in Mound City, Missouri. His Find A Grave memorial is here.
