James Rogers Ruby (1791-1845) and Susannah Jane Baysinger (1799-1864)

James Rogers Ruby and Susanna Jane Baysinger are Todd’s 4X Great Grandparents.

Todd’s mother Marilyn is in the DNA Circles at Ancestry.com for James and Susannah, plus both of James’ parents.

James Rogers Ruby was born February 2, 1791 in Kentucky. He was the son of Asa Ruby and Jane Rogers. His Great Grandfather Peter Ruby was born in Switzerland and arrived in Pennsylvania in 1738.

Susannah Jane Baysinger was born March 26, 1799 in Virginia. She was the daughter of Johan Peter Baysinger and Barbara Schneider. Johan was born in Germany and arrived in Pennsylvania in 1770 on the boat Minerva. Susannah’s parents were married in Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on October 14, 1771. Some believe that she too was born in Germany, and arrived in America on the same boat. In about 1796 the family moved to Rockingham County, Virginia.

James and Susannah were married March 8, 1815 in Breckinridge County, Kentucky.brec

On the 1820 US Census, James Ruby was head of a household in Stephens Port, Breckinridge County, Kentucky. We know James died between 1840 and 1850. There’s a Find A Grave memorial is here that says James died on August 29, 1845 and is buried in Clinton, Vermillion County, Indiana. I don’t have record of him living there, but some of his children were married there in the 1840s. Edgar County, Illinois and Vermillion County, Indiana are close together, about 25 miles apart.

On the 1850 US Census, widowed Susannah was 55 years old. The family lived in District 19, Edgar County, Illinois. Children at home were: Jonathan, age 16; Addison, age 10; Lezetta, age 8. Sons Bonerges, Asa and Valentine lived nearby.
