Michael Kinsel (1759-1850) and Nancy Lane (1774-1865)

Michael Kinsel and Nancy Lane are Todd’s 4X Great Grandparents.

Todd’s mother Marilyn is in the DNA Circles at Ancestry.com for both Michael and Nancy.

Michael Kinsel was born in Virginia in 1759. His parents are unknown.

Nancy Lane was born in 1774 in Loudoun County, Virginia. She is the daughter of William Lane and Nancy Allen. William Lane served in the American Revolution with the 10th Virginia Regiment. William participated in two Georgia Land Lotteries, which distributed Creek Indian lands to white settlers. He had 2 draws in the 1807 lottery and won one lot in Morgan County (at the time, Baldwin County). Lots were 202 acres. He participated in the 1827 lottery, earning two draws based on his service in the American Revolution. He drew land in Troup County and land in Lee County. He sold his Morgan County land to his son William Lane Jr.

Michael and Nancy married in 1789 in Fauquier County, Virginia.

On the 1810 US Census, Michael Kinsel was head of a household in Fauquier County, Virginia. There were 9 in the household: 3 males under age 10 (Martin was 1, William was 4, John was 13); 1 male aged 45 and over (Michael was 51); 1 female under age 10 (Margaret was 7); 3 females age 10-15 (Nancy was 10, Polly was 14, and Elizabeth was 16); 1 female aged 26-44 (Nancy was 36).

On the 1820 US Census, Michael Kinsel was head of a household in Fauquier County, Virginia. There were 11 in the household: 2 males under age 10 (Thomas was 6 and George was 8); 2 males aged 10-15 (Martin was 11 and William was 14); 1 male aged 16-25 (John was 23); 1 male aged 45 and over (Michael was 61); 1 female under age 10 (Catherine was 1); 3 females aged 10-15 (I believe the tally should have been in the 16-26 column because Margaret was 17, Nancy was 20, and Polly was 24); 1 female aged 45 and over (Nancy was 46).

On the 1830 US Census, Michael Kinsel was head of a household in Fauquier County, Virginia. There were 5 in the household: 1 male aged 10-14 (Thomas was 16); 1 male aged 15-19 (George was 18); 1 male aged 60-69 (Michael was 71); 1 female aged 10-14 (Catherine was 11); 1 female aged 50-59 (Nancy was 56).

On the 1840 US Census, Michael Kinsel was head of a household in Pike, Perry County, Ohio. There were 6 in the household: 1 male aged 20-29; 1 male aged 30-39; 1 male aged 80-89 (Michael was 81); 1 female under age 5; 1 female aged 20-29; 1 female aged 60-69 (Nancy was 66).

On the 1850 US Census, widowed Nancy, age 76, lived in Madison, Perry County, Ohio with daughter Frances, her husband James Daymude, and their children.

On the 1860 US Census, Nancy was 86 and lived in Pike, Perry County, Ohio with daughter Elizabeth and her husband Thomas Harper and their child.

The children of Michael Kinsel and Nancy Lane:

Elizabeth Kinsel – Elizabeth was born October 10, 1794 in Loudoun County, Virginia. She married Thomas Harper on March 21, 1811. Thomas served in the War of 1812 and was a Baptist minister. They had 12 children. She died October 29, 1876 in McArthur, Vinton County, Ohio. Her obituary says that she lost 2 sons and 4 grandsons in the Civil War. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

Mary “Polly” Kinsel – Polly was born around 1795 or 1796 in Virginia. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

Frances “Nancy” Ann Kinsel – Nancy was born on February 17, 1800 in Loudoun County, Virginia. She married James Fenton Daymude on January 9, 1827 in Fauquier County, Virginia. They had 3 children. She died on October 17, 1871 in Illinois. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

Margaret Kinsel – Margaret was born in about 1803 in Fauquier County, Virginia. She married Francis Kirkpatrick on December 25, 1820 in Fauquier County, Virginia. She died around 1833. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.

William Kinsel – William was born in 1806 in Virginia. He married Frances Lewis on December 29, 1829 in Fauquier County, Virginia. They had one child. It is not known when he died, but Frances remarried in 1841. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

Martin Kinsel – Martin was born on May 9, 1809 in Fauquier County, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Ogg. They had 5 children. He died on July 5, 1887 in Vinton County, Ohio. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

George Washington Kinsel –  George was born on January 11, 1812 in Fauquier County, Virginia. He married Mary Johnson and they had 7 children. He died on June 6, 1901 in Edina, Knox County, Missouri. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

Thomas Albert Kinsel – Thomas was born July 24, 1814 in Fauquier County, Virginia. He married Minerva Sykes. They had 13 chidren. He died on April 28, 1881 in New Lexington, Perry County, Ohio. His Find A Grave memorial is here.

Catherine Ann Kinsel – Catherine was born September 27, 1819 in Virginia. She married Thomas Rush. They had 10 children. She died on August 20, 1885 in Clay County, Illinois. Her Find A Grave memorial is here.
